Planning a render project in Ludlow? We explain why temperature matters for Thin-Coat Silicone systems and the best months to book your transformation.
Why timing is the secret ingredient to a finish that lasts 25 years.
If you live in Ludlow or South Shropshire, you know the weather can be unforgiving. Driving rain, damp valleys, and freezing winters are the norm. When you invest in rendering your home, you want to know that investment is safe.
Many homeowners wait until the sun is shining in July to pick up the phone. But in the trade, we know that the "perfect time" isn't just about avoiding rain—it's about hitting the "Goldilocks" temperature zone that allows high-quality silicone render to cure correctly.
At Abode Plastering, we specialise in Thin-Coat Silicone Render (K-Rend/VPI). This isn't just "render on a wall"; it is a chemical system designed to be breathable and hydrophobic (water-repellent).
For this chemistry to work, the render needs a specific temperature range to set.
Too Cold (Below 5°C): The chemical bond fails. The render won't cure, and it will eventually wash off the wall.
Too Hot (Above 30°C): The render dries too fast ("flashes"), leading to hairline cracks and a poor texture.
We don't guess. We monitor the conditions daily. If it’s too cold, we won't risk your money by applying the topcoat.
The "Preparation" Season. This is often the best time to start. The days are getting longer, and the risk of heavy frost has passed. It is the perfect time to strip off old, blown render and treat the underlying brickwork with Salt Neutraliser before applying the new system.
The "Peak" Season. This is when everyone wants their house done. Conditions are generally excellent, but because demand is high, our schedule fills up months in advance.
Pro Tip: If you want your house rendered in summer, you need to book us in Spring.
The "Sweet Spot." Often overlooked, early autumn in Shropshire is fantastic for rendering. The air is humid (which helps the render cure slowly and strongly) but not yet freezing. It is often the best time to get the house weather-tight before Christmas.
The "Planning" Season. We generally avoid applying silicone topcoats in the depths of winter unless the weather is exceptionally mild. However, this is the best time to get your estimate. By getting your quote approved in January, you secure your place at the front of the queue for a Spring start.
The biggest mistake we see? Homeowners waiting until their old render has physically fallen off before calling us.
Good tradespeople in South Shropshire are often booked 3-4 months in advance. If you wait until the leak starts to call, you might be waiting a long time.
The Smart Move: Plan ahead. Get your estimate sorted now so we can schedule your project for the optimal weather window.
Get an Accurate Estimate Without the Wait. We can assess your property remotely using our digital form. Upload your photos, and we will check the access and substrate to give you a detailed plan.
