Watch how we transformed a cracked, textured ceiling just in time for a client's deadline. A step-by-step look at the Overboarding process.
We recently helped a client who had just purchased a renovation property. They were in the final stages of the build but faced a major hurdle: the lounge ceiling was cracked and covered in heavy Artex.
The pressure was on. The client had a housewarming party booked with family invited, and they needed the room finished, painted, and ready for guests. They couldn't afford a long, messy removal process—they needed a solution that was fast, clean, and guaranteed to be perfect in time for the party.
Given the tight deadline and the condition of the old ceiling, Overboarding was the obvious choice.
Scraping or removing the ceiling would have created too much dust and taken too long. Instead, we mechanically fixed brand-new plasterboards directly through the existing ceiling into the joists.
Why this worked for the client:
Speed: We could prep, board, and skim without the heavy demolition phase.
Stability: It instantly hid the cracks and the texture behind a solid new surface.
Safety: It encapsulated the old surface safely, allowing the client to get the room decorated faster.
(Filmed on site in Hereford. We apply this same rigorous standard to all our homes in Ludlow and South Shropshire).
If you watched the video above, you’ll see the specific steps we take to ensure a "Master Craftsman" finish:
Safety & Prep: Before a single board went up, we verified the joist positions to ensure a solid fix.
Boarding: We installed new plasterboards, staggering the joints to prevent cracking.
The "Abode Standard" Skim: We applied a British Gypsum two-coat skim, trowelling it up to a flat and matte finish.
Cleanliness: Notice the floor protection? We kept the site spotless so the client could move their furniture back in immediately.
The client was able to paint the ceiling once dry and host their party in a room that looked brand new.
Fire Safety: Improved (due to the extra layer of board).
Soundproofing: Enhanced.
You don't have to live with swirls, cracks, and stipples. Whether you have a deadline to meet or just want a fresh look, we can replicate this finish in your home.
