Plumber left ceiling damage in South Shropshire? Don't risk mould. Book our Priority Friday service for a guaranteed, fast-track plastering patch and skip the waiting list.
The panic is over. The plumber has visited your home, located the burst pipe, and stopped the leak. But as they pack up their tools and head to their next job, you are left looking up at the aftermath.
Whether it’s an ugly brown watermark spreading across your pristine white ceiling, or a gaping hole where the plumber had to cut through to access the pipes, the reality sets in: Who is going to fix this?
If you start calling around Ludlow and South Shropshire for a quality plasterer, you might find it surprisingly difficult to get a firm date.
It’s not necessarily that no one wants the work. The problem is logistics. Most good plasterers are committed to large renovation projects that run for weeks at a time. Breaking off from a whole-house renovation to do a half-day ceiling patch is difficult to schedule.
As a result, these critical little repairs often end up at the bottom of the to-do list, or you get offered a vague "I'll try to squeeze you in sometime next month."
But when you have a hole in your ceiling, "sometime next month" isn't good enough.
A common misconception I hear from clients is, "It's only a small patch, maybe we can just paint over it once it dries."
I strongly advise against this.
Gypsum plasterboard is like a sponge. Once it has been saturated, its structural integrity is often compromised. But the real danger isn't structural—it's biological.
I recently attended a job in Leominster that perfectly illustrates this risk. The homeowners had suffered a leak and needed a patch repair. On the surface, it looked like a standard job.
However, when I used my multi-tool to cut out the damaged section of the board, I found that the insulation in the ceiling void was soaking wet. Worse still, because the void was warm and dark, black mould had already started to colonise the insulation and the back of the board.
If we had simply skimmed over that damage, the mould would have continued to grow, releasing spores into the home.
The Abode Standard: We didn't just patch it. We removed the sodden insulation, treated the timber and surrounding area to ensure the mould was eradicated, and installed fresh, dry insulation before sealing the ceiling back up. Our Full Range of Restoration Services
We understand that uncertainty is stressful. That is why we introduced Priority Fridays.
This is a dedicated service designed specifically for small, urgent repairs. It allows you to bypass the logistical hurdles of the standard schedule and secure a guaranteed slot on a Friday for a fixed fee of £230.
It buys you certainty. We know that the number one frustration for homeowners is wondering if a tradesman will actually turn up. When you book a Priority Friday slot, your date is locked in. We turn up when we say we will, and we get the job done.
It is important to be transparent here: Not every leak repair qualifies for this service.
Priority Fridays are strictly for small jobs that take half a day or less:
Eligible: Patching a hole left by a plumber (up to approx. 1m sq), skimming a water-damaged alcove, or a small ceiling patch.
Not Eligible: If the leak has brought down the entire ceiling or if the room requires a full re-skim. Information on Full Room Plastering & Re-Skimming. Those are larger projects that require our standard scheduling.
If you aren't sure if your job fits, just ask. We are here to help you determine the best route.
When we arrive to repair your ceiling, we treat your home with the respect it deserves.
The Neat Cut We don't hack away at your ceiling with a hammer. I use a specialised multi-tool saw to cut out the damaged plasterboard. While this tool can be a little noisy, it provides a surgical, square cut. This ensures the new patch fits perfectly, resulting in a stronger, seamless repair that blends invisibly with the existing ceiling.
Locking Down the Floor Repairing a ceiling is gravity working against us—dust will fall. That is why we don't just throw down a sheet. We use a multi-layered protection system: heavy-duty waterproof tarpaulins to protect your carpets or hardwood, topped with absorbent cloths to catch any debris.
To ensure we can complete your repair efficiently and keep the dust localised, please ensure the following:
Clear the Area: Move any furniture directly beneath the repair area (sofas, tables, shelving units) at least six feet away, or preferably out of the room entirely.
Remove Valuables: Take down curtains, framed photos, and any décor or small items from the walls and surfaces in the immediate vicinity.
Ensure Access: If the repair is in a bathroom or kitchen, please ensure all countertops are clear beneath the patch, and the access point is easily reachable.

Once the repair is done, you will be left with a smooth, drying patch of plaster. The final step is decoration.
Painting new plaster requires a specific technique to ensure the paint bonds correctly and doesn't peel off later. To help you get the perfect finish, I have written a complete guide on this exact topic.
